Operations - Radical Surgery for Ovarian Cancer
In gynaecology, arguably the only indication for open surgery is ovarian cancer - when there is a requirement to perform extensive removal of the malignancy.
In this case it is important to perform a thorough excision/reduction of all malignancy together with hysterectomy and ovaries, omentectomy and also a lymphadenectomy. In some situations this will be followed by further treatment like chemotherapy. In very exceptional cases the procedure could be less extensive than the above but every case should be individualized.
