Chris completed his medical degree at the University of Auckland and from an early stage had a passion and aptitude for pharmacology, physiology, and procedural work which would eventually lead to his choosing of anaesthesia as a specialty. In 1995 he completed a Master of Medical Science in neuropharmacology graduating with first class honours. This gave him in depth understanding on how drugs affect the brain and also allow him to critically appraise research. In 2005 Chris completed his specialty anaesthesia training with fellowships in obstetric anaesthesia at National Women’s Hospital and major abdominal surgery at Auckland’s North Shore Hospital.
Since 2006 Chris has worked at Waikato Hospital as a specialist anaesthetist where he continued his interest in obstetrics as the department’s lead obstetric anaesthetist until moving on to become one the department’s deputy directors. He is also the obstetric representative for the New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists where he is an advocate for safety and quality in childbirth at a national level. Chris joined Jose’s team in 2013, and as its newest member he is keen to use his expertise in anaesthesia for women’s health and abdominal surgery to provide quality anaesthesia care for Jose’s patients.
